Sunday On Trend: The Mini Skirt

DSC_1406It’s Sunday and you know what that means. A new Sunday On Trend! Today I want to show you another trend I love, but could be tricky if used wrongly. I am talking about the miniskirt. The mini skirt is widely associated by Mary Quant in the early 60’s. She had a fashion boutique called Bazaar in London. Already in the 1950’s she experimented with making skirts shorter. Her female customers wanted their skirts even shorter. And in 1964 it resulted in the miniskirt. Something that was more practical than a longer skirt, which gave women a slight chance to run for and catch their bus. Quant says she didn’t invent the miniskirt, but she is the one that is most associated with.

I combined this miniskirt with some stockings, ankle boots, a cute shirt with stars, a leather jacket and a flapper hat to top this ensemble off. I kept it classy not tacky by wearing ankle boots instead of sky high sandals. You want to look smashing, but not too sexy, in case that’s not the intention. I would suggest wearing a miniskirt with a neat top/shirt, just to avoid the outfit getting suggestive. Or add a little toughness to it like I did by wearing a leather jacket. I love that my miniskirt has this animal print on it, but still looks expensive because of the woolen fabric. I saw Cara Delevigne wearing it at Topshop, so I ordered it without a second guess. Would you wear a miniskirt?
